Brampton Transit To Participate in the CUTRIC Pan-Ontario Electric-Bus Demonstration and Integration Trial

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada – March 10, 2017: (TSX: NFI) (TSX: NFI.DB.U) New Flyer Industries Inc. (“New Flyer” or the “Company”), the largest transit bus and motor coach manufacturer and parts distributor in North America, announced today that Brampton City Council has approved Brampton Transit’s involvement in the Pan-Ontario Electric Bus Demonstration and Integration Trial, facilitated by the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC).

For this innovative and challenging demonstration project, CUTRIC has brought together transit agencies, funding partners, research teams, technology tools, and manufacturing stakeholders, to design, manufacture and deploy electric buses and charging infrastructure in several cities throughout Canada.  Brampton City Council is the first city to approve participation in the trial, and plans to deploy up to 10 electric buses and 4 overhead electric charging stations from multiple manufacturers on several transit routes throughout Brampton.

“Since the introduction of our zero-emission battery-electric bus, New Flyer has led North American efforts to develop industry standards for both on-route and depot charging of battery-electric buses,” says Chris Stoddart, New Flyer Senior Vice President of Engineering.  He adds, “The charging system and associated standards for this project are simultaneously being adopted in Europe, allowing industry proven charging equipment suppliers to focus their efforts on standardized equipment over sole proprietary designs.  This trial represents a unique opportunity to prove out the interoperability of on-route charging systems with electric buses; a real-life challenge as Canadian cities move to adopt zero-emission transit vehicles.”

New Flyer has been a proud member of CUTRIC since 2016, and is committed to the success of the Pan-Ontario Electric-Bus Demonstration and Integration trial, which launches later this year. Further details on this initiative may be found at www.cutric-crituc.org .
