New Flyer commends STL on zero-emission leadership in Eastern Canada

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada – August 15, 2019: (TSX: NFI) New Flyer Industries Canada ULC (“New Flyer”), a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc. (“NFI”), one of the world’s leading independent global bus manufacturers, today congratulated the Société de transport de Laval (“STL”) on the unveiling of its first zero-emission, battery-electric Xcelsior CHARGE™ bus.

Today’s STL celebration welcomed representatives from the STL Board including Chairman Éric Morasse, joined by Laval Mayor Marc Demers, Québec Minister of Transport François Bonnardel, and Government of Canada Member of Parliament Eva Nassif (on behalf of the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne) among others, in unveiling and celebrating the latest in sustainable, zero-emission technology coming to Laval.

Launching its first zero-emission bus (“ZEB”) line in 2020, STL is on its way to a 100 percent electric-powered transportation network. Its first order of ten Xcelsior CHARGE™ buses was announced alongside the Société de transport de Montréal (“STM”) in August 2018, at the time becoming Canada’s largest ever battery-electric bus contract to New Flyer. STL’s buses will utilize depot chargers overnight; furthering STL’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by exploring unique electric mobility solutions to create more livable cities. Additionally, STL has committed to buy only electric buses starting in 2024.

“Now more than ever, we must do our best to preserve our environment and build sustainable transportation. New Flyer is pleased to support STL and commends its leadership in the evolution to zero-emission mobility, building cities with greater livability, and improving quality of life,” said Chris Stoddart, President, New Flyer. “We are delighted to partner with STL and provide buses, infrastructure solutions, and technology that features Canadian intellectual property in motion and leverages over 50 years of New Flyer experience in manufacturing zero-emission buses.”

STL provides public transportation via bus and paratransit services in the community of Laval, Québec, and delivering over 19 million passenger rides per year. STL’s reliability and on-time performance are among the best in the world, and it is a Canadian leader in providing real-time passenger information to its customers.

NFI has been the Canadian leader in bus manufacturing for nearly 90 years. New Flyer has been advancing vehicle innovation through bus, technology, and infrastructure advancements in zero-emission technologies since its first ZEB delivery to the Toronto Transit Commission in 1968, and since then has delivered over 540 ZEBs across Canada. It continues to drive nationwide innovation and advocacy of zero-emission adoption through industry collaboration. In 2018, New Flyer became the first bus manufacturer in the world to sign on to the Shared Mobility Principles for Livable Cities, joined the Charging Interface Initiative (CharIN) to support industry charging standards for all electric vehicles, became the first licensee outside the Volvo Group to join OppCharge in North America, and celebrated the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium’s (CUTRIC) launch of the Pan-Canadian Electric Bus Demonstration and Integration Trial – the world’s first multi-manufacturer interoperability demonstration for fast-charge electric buses – of which New Flyer was a contributing member.
