New Flyer Demonstrating All Electric Xcelsior® Transit Bus On South Eastern U.S Tour

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada – May 25, 2015: (TSX: NFI) (TSX: NFI.DB.U) New Flyer of America Inc., a subsidiary of New Flyer Industries Inc (“New Flyer” or the “Company”), the leading manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses in the United States and Canada, announced today that it will demonstrate the technical and performance features of the New Flyer Xcelsior® zero-emission heavy-duty XE40 transit bus to local councilors and government officials in several cities throughout the southern United States. The tour will consist of bus demonstrations in: Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Florida and Texas.

New Flyer is the only transit bus manufacturer in North America today that can offer propulsion systems ranging from: clean diesel, hybrid-electric, electric-trolley, natural gas, fuel cell and now battery-electric all on the same bus platform, which allows transit authorities to capture significant maintenance and operational synergies across their fleets. The Xcelsior zero-emission bus is a best-in-class option for reducing acquisition and operating costs for alternative energy vehicles.

“This bus is built on our highly successful Xcelsior platform and is the logical evolution of our zero-emissions propulsion portfolio, based on our extensive electrification experience,” commented Paul Smith, New Flyer’s Executive Vice-President of Sales and Marketing.

The XE40 features a Siemens electric drive system and proven electric subsystems with unique electric drive motor technology permitting the bus to reduce the energy consumed while driving, and increase the energy recovered during braking. The Xcelsior XE40 is expected to result in:
• Substantially lower operating costs with zero tailpipe emissions and greenhouse gases
• Reduced noise inside and outside the bus
• Increased operator and passenger comfort
• Safer and more reliable wintertime operation

New Flyer is also taking an innovative approach to powering the second axle in an Xcelsior 60-foot articulated version of the bus (XE60) which provides considerably more traction, making it even more reliable in the wintertime operations of ice and snow.

As with all New Flyer buses, the XE40 and XE60 are delivered with New Flyer’s commitment to lifetime customer care, including a comprehensive product warranty, maintenance and operations training, spare parts and an extensive network of in-service support professionals.
