Trinity Metro launches The Dash service in Texas with zero-emission buses from New Flyer

St. Cloud, Minnesota, USA – September 23, 2019: (TSX: NFI) New Flyer of America Inc. (“New Flyer”), a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc. (“NFI”), one of the world’s leading independent global bus manufacturers, today celebrated alongside the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (“Trinity Metro”) as it officially launched The Dash – a zero-emission service in Downtown Fort Worth powered by four battery-electric Xcelsior CHARGE™ buses manufactured by New Flyer.

Today’s event was led by Trinity Metro President and CEO Bob Baulsir, who welcomed state, county and city leaders and transit enthusiasts including State Sen. Beverly Powell, Tarrant County Commissioner Gary Fickes, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, Fort Worth Councilmember Ann Zadeh, Trinity Metro Board Chairman Scott Mahaffey, former Fort Worth Mayor Ken Barr, investor representative Brandy O’Quinn, and New Flyer’s Rex Colorado.

“New Flyer commends Trinity Metro on its evolution to zero-emission mobility and commitment to improving quality of life for the surrounding community,” said Chris Stoddart, President, New Flyer. “We’re delighted to support Trinity Metro in its pursuit to providing Forth Worth residents with a cleaner, more livable city.”

The purchase of Xcelsior CHARGE™ zero-emission buses (“ZEBs”), first announced in July 2019, will support a new route called The Dash, a zero-emission service connecting Downtown Fort Worth with its Cultural District and utilizing Trinity Metro’s first all-electric buses; ultimately delivering reduced emissions and continued economic growth in the area. New Flyer is further supporting the deployment with management of ABB charger installation and commissioning through New Flyer Infrastructure Solutions™. The Dash began operations September 22 with all four zero-emission buses that feature reduced air and noise pollution, and enhancements such as wood-like flooring and USB charge ports for passengers.

Together, the City of Fort Worth and Trinity Metro share a mission to improve the quality of life for all residents while driving economic growth. The Dash will help accelerate promotion of a vibrant Cultural District and Downtown, and encourage a boost to the region’s economy.

Trinity Metro is a regional transportation system providing public transportation in Fort Worth, Texas, and other cities in Tarrant County, part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Trinity Metro continues to expand and currently delivers nearly 8 million passenger trips per year in one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country.

New Flyer has more than 50 years of experience in manufacturing zero-emission buses (ZEBs), with more electric buses on the road in America than any other manufacturer. In 2018, New Flyer became the first bus manufacturer in the world to sign on to the Shared Mobility Principles for Livable Cities, joined the Charging Interface Initiative (CharIN) to support industry charging standards for all electric vehicles, became the first licensee outside the Volvo Group to join OppCharge in North America, signed CALSTART’s Global Commercial Drive to Zero to support fast-tracking adoption of clean trucks and buses, and also signed the Transportation Electrification Accord focused on driving an equitable and prosperous future for electrified transportation.
