New Flyer solicits employee input

Published by Southern Automotive Alliance

New Flyer of America Inc. is launching an Employee Engagement Committee to bolster inclusion and amplify employee suggestions.

The EEC, launching companywide, came out of the commitments made under the company’s Anniston Workforce Development Program launched last September to address training, wage and benefit commitments, diversity and hiring objectives, pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs and establishing partnerships with community-based organizations. The EEC specifically is aimed at cultivating an inclusive workplace.

New Flyer of America, in Anniston, Alabama, makes heavy-duty transit buses under the Xcelsior and Xcelsior CHARGE brands, which incorporate a broad array of drive systems, including clean diesel, natural gas, diesel-electric hybrid, trolley-electric, battery-electric and fuel cell-electric.

“We are proud of our Community Benefits Framework and will continue to put it to work as we aggressively pursue meaningful strides toward a more equitable workplace, that both empowers employees and their families to grow and adds value to our local economy,” said Herb Clark, New Flyer vice president of human resources. “Our EEC is an integral part of our effort to increase employee visibility and satisfaction and helps build space and value for every voice at the table. Together, we are fostering dialogue that matters.”

The EEC is comprised of employee representatives across departments, as well as volunteer employee participants who are fully engaged in committee meetings and activities.

New Flyer also operates the Vehicle Information Center, also in Anniston, the first and only innovation lab of its kind dedicated to advancing bus and coach technology and providing workforce development on electric bus training, which is now available online. The company has a number of other manufacturing facilities across North America.
