Oakland Awards New Flyer Contracts For Up To 116 60-Foot Xcelsior® Buses
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada – December 14, 2016: (TSX: NFI) (TSX: NFI.DB.U) New Flyer of America Inc., a subsidiary of New Flyer Industries Inc. (“New Flyer” or the “Company”), the largest heavy-duty transit bus and motor coach manufacturer and parts distributor in North America, announced today that the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (“AC Transit”) located in Oakland, California, has awarded New Flyer two separate contracts for up to 116 (or 232 equivalent units or “EUs”) heavy-duty 60-foot Xcelsior®clean diesel and diesel-electric hybrid buses.
In January 2016, New Flyer received a purchase order from AC Transit for 27 (54 EUs) 60-foot diesel-electric hybrid Xcelsior buses, valued at approximately $30 million. The buses were designed with 5-doors that permit both curb-side and center median platform-styled boarding, and include a design change to move the bike racks from the front of the bus to the interior.
This past month, a second contract valued at approximately $22.8 million was awarded, including a firm order for 29 (58 EUs) 60-foot Xcelsior clean diesel buses, with options to purchase up to 60 (120 EUs) additional 60-foot Xcelsior buses over the course of the 5-year contract.
The earlier 27 bus award was disclosed in New Flyer’s First Quarter 2016 Orders and Backlog news release and therefore, has already been accounted for in New Flyer’s backlog.
