Winnipeg, Manitoba – San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will purchase 47 New Flyer compressed natural gas (CNG), 40-foot, low-floor buses. Delivery will be completed by May, 2005. Claire Spielberg, Chief Operating Officer (Bus) of San Diego MTS said, "We’re enthusiastic about New Flyer having an opportunity to build for us again. Quick delivery was a key component of the award. New Flyer was able to meet the challenge by providing pre-configured buses that match our operating criteria." New Flyer is the industry leader in building alternative-fueled vehicles for the North American transit industry. A commitment to continual innovation makes New Flyer the number one choice among leading transit agencies when evaluating buses with alternative fueled powertrains, such as those found in CNG, LNG, and hybrid propulsion systems. "We’re extremely proud that New Flyer was able to fulfill the needs of San Diego and maintain our 100% fleet status with respect to low floor buses at MTS," commented Paul Smith, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing for New Flyer. "The New Flyer C40LF continues to deliver superior value to Southern California transit agencies as they work to reduce emissions in their operating territories." Upon completion of this order, New Flyer buses will account for 191 buses, or 77% of San Diego MTS’s heavy-duty fleet.
