New Flyer has been selected to manufacture and deliver alternate-fueled transit buses to Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA). The base order is for 50 compressed natural gas (CNG), heavy-duty, 40-foot vehicles to be delivered in 2006, with options for 150 buses in 2007 and 177 buses in 2009.

"New Flyer is pleased to have received this important award and we look forward to providing OCTA with the high quality products and services they have specified," said John Marinucci, President and CEO of New Flyer. "We have enjoyed an excellent supply relationship with OCTA since 1990, and this significant multi-year procurement is evidence that OCTA is pleased with our products and our ability to deliver value over the lifetime of the vehicles."

OCTA awarded New Flyer the order following a comprehensive evaluation of product offerings, aftermarket support and program management procedures, as well as the completion of a successful Buy America audit. The 377 vehicles will feature New Flyer’s redesigned styling, which delivers enhanced curb appeal, and will also include Allison Transmissions, Digital Recorders voice annunciation systems, Vansco Multiplexing Systems and Sportworks Bike Racks.

"The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) was recently named America’s No. 1 transportation system, and we rely on New Flyer buses to help us provide the exceptional transit service our customers have come to expect," said OCTA Chief Executive Officer Arthur T. Leahy. "OCTA currently operates more than 250 New Flyer diesel buses and they have proven to be an extremely dependable part of our fleet. We look forward to working with New Flyer in the coming years as we continue to modernize our fleet, starting with the purchase of 50 New Flyer CNG buses."

OCTA is based in Orange, California, and provides transit service to over three million residents. Its current fleet consists of 560 heavy-duty vehicles, of which 269 are New Flyer vehicles. In addition to its CNG vehicles, OCTA recently evaluated two New Flyer gasoline-electric hybrid buses and have subsequently added them to its fleet.
