Lane Transit Selects New Flyer as Builder for BRT Vehicle

July 9, 2004 -- Lane Transit District of Eugene, Oregon has selected New Flyer to supply five articulated vehicles designed specifically for Bus Rapid Transit corridors. These five vehicles will operate on the Franklin Corridor EmX.  At a recent ground-breaking event marking the start of Eugene’s first bus rapid transit line, construction, infrastructure, and advanced technologies were discussed, including the model selected, which will be New Flyer’s DE60LF-BRT, a 60-foot articulated vehicle.

The decision follows a world-wide search for the best solution to equip LTD’s innovative BRT system – and the solution was found within the United States. New Flyer’s manufacturing plants are located in St. Cloud and Crookston, Minnesota.  Bus Rapid Transit, or BRT, “thinks like rail but uses buses,” explains Paul Smith, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing at New Flyer. “These efficient systems are designed with the passenger in mind and the equipment is customized for each centre’s unique needs.”

New Flyer’s approach to product configuration, coupled with its broad commitment to customer satisfaction, reduced the cost and complexity of this procurement. LTD and New Flyer worked as partners to tailor a product that met and exceeded LTD’s vision of a high-style, environmentally responsible, affordable rapid transit service.

Passengers in Eugene will enjoy the visual appearance of the rapid transit bus, with its sleek outline and roomy interior.  Its custom design features doors on both sides, comfortable and quite operation, and platform-level entry to ensure easy access for all riders.
