Winnipeg, MB, Canada; March 5, 2007;
New Flyer’s newest product, the 60-foot articulated Advanced Style BRT vehicle, made its in-service debut as Lane Transit District (LTD) of Eugene, OR unveiled its new EmX Green Line dedicated bus rapid transit system.
New Flyer congratulates LTD on its creative approach to improving service and protecting the environment and on its industry leadership in the implementation of the EmX bus rapid transit system.
LTD purchased six of the New Flyer buses, which are arguably the most advanced transit buses on the road today. On-board cameras offer passenger and driver security while signal priority technology gives buses priority through intersections for predictable, on-schedule service. At-grade boarding incorporating innovative ramps is provided on both sides using five doors creating a fully accessible transportation choice. The buses are powered by an Allison parallel diesel hybrid drive system that reduces greenhouse gas emission while providing greater fuel economy and a significantly quieter ride.
The first delivery of New Flyer’s BRT vehicle was the pilot bus for Cleveland, OH, which was delivered in 2006. The bus was immediately engaged in, and has successfully completed, Altoona testing, clearing the way for delivery of the six vehicles for LTD and of future orders.
New Flyer’s highly dependable platform is ideally suited for dedicated BRT applications with its extensive list of available options and attractive ridership-building design. New Flyer has a long tradition of developing and delivering advanced vehicles for BRT-types of service and is credited with offering the first articulated buses, articulated low-floor buses, and articulated low-floor hybrid buses in North America. To date, New Flyer has over 740 hybrid vehicles either on the road or scheduled for production through 2007 - more than any other manufacturer.
